We hope to bring Vermonters into conversation about the very visible struggle on our streets and in our communities.
Vermont’s DOC is proposing the build of a new women’s prison with a starting cost of $70-$90 million.
Is this the best way to address the root causes of this struggle?
How does this provide the needed resources to effect lasting and positive change for struggling individuals, and ultimately for our entire community?
This is for Vermonters, made by Vermonters, about Vermonters.”

“Vermont is pitching a new “trauma-informed” prison modeled after Maine’s design and marketed as an economic benefit—but what’s the real cost?
Join FreeHer VT for a powerful webinar unpacking how language of care and promises of job creation are being used to push forward “progressive” incarceration not only in Vermont, but across the country. You’ll hear from:
❤️🔥 Formerly incarcerated organizers
📍 Leaders from Maine, speaking on the very model VTDOC keeps uplifting
📌 Illinois organizers resisting a prison plan echoing the same “trauma-informed prison” narrative
🏗️ Vermont Against Amazon, connecting carceral expansion to capitalist infrastructure
We’re bringing together experts, organizers, and impacted community members for an urgent conversation you won’t want to miss. Expect real stories, deep analysis, and a live Q&A to end the event.”
